A Wasted Weekend

Am I the only one that thought today was Monday until a moment ago? Mike worked Saturday,  which made it feel like a Friday. Then I was miserably sick Sunday and Monday. So, instead of spending outdoors with the family, I spent lots of time in bed watching the History channel because I couldn't reach the remote. And by the way, the History channel should probably be renamed the "Paranoia" channel. It is definitely not the warm and fuzzy, pick me up that I needed while I was sick. Why wasn't Animal planet's "Too Cute" on when I needed it!? "Too Cute" has to be the most Therapeutic show on television. Wouldn't you agree?
So that was just the start of my sub-par weekend. To top all the sucky-ness off, one of my sugar gliders died. A sugar glider looks like a cute little flying squirrel except they are nocturnal marsupials. They're super sweet. Last week I rescued one named Stitch (like Lilo and Stitch) from a friend and had hoped I could rehabilitate it enough that it would be a good buddy for Shugs, the one Mike and I have had for a couple years. In the end it was sicker than anyone had imagined because it passed away last night. I cried despite only having it a week. Mike and Layla buried it in a pretty spot down by the river.
The only thing good about my weekend is I received my first Ipsy Glam bag in the mail yesterday. I actually thought I had canceled my subscription last month because I signed up at the end of December and never ever received a bag. Luckily I didn't because I was pleasantly surprised with what was in my bag. Sure alot of my bag was similar to items I already had like the shimmery neutral eye shadow and  versatile pink lipstick but overall it seemed alot more colorful than birchbox. The sizes were bigger however, Plus I love the bag itself. I'm picky about floral prints but this blue floral bag was perfect. Not sure how I'm gonna use it yet though.
So that sums up my weekend. Was yours better than mine was?

A Metallic Monday Manicure.

Twice a month,  every other Monday, I pack up the little one for a much needed, sanity saving, mommy relaxation day. What I do that day is usually somthing like yoga, try a new recipe, take a walk,  grab a coffee or paint my nails.
Today I started with some yoga and followed that up with a fresh manicure in this beautiful shade of Revlon Copper Penny. It's my new "neutral".
Wait, Copper is a neutral right?
Like alot of great trends, I caught on to metallics a little late. But its not too late for you. I promise. As soon as I tried it I immediately fell in love with its effortless chic.
This color will make any outfit instantly more glamourous. Don't you think so? Plus, I'm convinced they match with everything,  and every skintone. Forget all those classically neutral beige and pinks, this shade, honestly, is so versatile even your grandmother would love it. Please don't tell me otherwise.  I'm too in love with Copper Penny to have anyone burst my metallic manicure bubble.
P.S. Forgive my otherwise minimally manicured hands, I'm a working mother, not a hand model.

A Birthday Present From Myself.

Happy birthday to me!
You might not know it, but it was my birthday a few weeks ago. As a gift to myself I bought something I've been wanting for at least a year. A subscription to Birchbox!
I have to confess, I'd never even heard of this company until I read about them in glamour magazine. I instantly wanted to subscribe but they only have a limited number so I got stuck on a waiting list that seemed like it would last a lifetime.  How perfect was it that the day before my birthday I got an email saying I should sign up!? (Finally!) I was so excited, I couldn't waste another minute! So I headed over to their website and a few days later my first box arrived.  Tucked inside was a  pumpkin seed granola bar (which I ate almost immediately),   some CC creme, some dark purple eye liner, and a bottle of opalescent, light blue nail polish (in the photo). The great thing about these monthly packages is that, because alot of the items are samples, you don't get bored with wearing the same shades of makeup until they are gone (if you're like me).

Even if it's not your birthday,  I think you'll like it :)
